Questions about the Theraputic Process

  • Counselling and Psychotherapy is an umbrella term used for talking therapies. The aim of counselling/therapy is to help you navigate life's challenges or even as an space for self-development. Through safe and meaningful exploration, we will develop insights into your inner world at your own pace. This can include your thoughts, feelings, behaviours about the past, present and future. Discussion with a trained professional can support your exploration - whether it's working towards developing effective change and understanding or finding ways to cope with stressors.

  • Currently, I exclusively offer online counselling services. For online counselling, I use the secure platform whereby.com.

Sessions can be accessed via you internet browser or their application. I will send you access to the session through email on the day. As we are meeting virtually, please consider the environment of our sessions. It can be helpful to chose a space where you feel safe and comfortable to engage freely in conversation.

  • Each session will last 50 mins. However, the duration of therapy is based on your individual needs. This means in our time together, once you reach a point of growth where you feel ready to move towards an ending, we will discuss this timeline. As a collaborative process, from beginning to end, we may start with 6 sessions and review over time. I'm happy to discuss this further during your first session.

  • There is no preparation needed for your first session. Although, it might be helpful to consider what your expectations are therapy and what you would like to achieve.

I will spend the majority of the time getting to know you at a pace that is comfortable for our developing relationship. This initial discussion will likely continue through the second session. Please feel free to ask questions or bring a list of concerns or topics you would like to cover.

  • Of course, it is of the upmost importance that you feel safe to share in this space. Anything you share will remain confidential, however, it is crucial to be aware of the legal and ethical boundaries which guide confidentially. I'm happy to discuss the boundaries with you.

I believe your privacy and trust in an important pillar in our work together.

  • As I am not a crisis service, in the event of a life-threatening situation, such as self-injury, call 999 or visit your local A&E for immediate assistance. If you're concerned about your own safety or someone else's, don't hesitate to seek urgent help.

For urgent mental health support, call NHS's 111 or request an urgent GP appointment.

Additionally, the charitable organisation, the Samaritans, offers a free and confidential listening service provided by dedicated volunteers. They operate 24 hours a day and are able to help anyone in distress. Contact them on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.
